This simple round jar was fired in the most intense part of the wood kiln, near the firebox about half way up the stack. The piece is almost entirely coated in a heavy and complex natural ash glaze. Those areas around the shell marks which were shielded from the ash show the clay to be blackened where carbon was driven into the surface. One of my favorites.
