Small wood fired serving bowl with shino liner glaze and natural ash glazed exterior. The pattern on the rim of the piece is a result of how it was stacked in the kiln. Bowls are often stacked rim to rim with little balls of fireclay and sawdust (wadding) separating them. The area under the wadding is protected from the atmoshphere in the kiln, resulting a contrast in color between the parts of the pot exposed to the atmosphere and the areas protected by the wadding.
